Background information:

The European Union Advisory Mission for Civilian Security Sector Reform Ukraine, EUAM Ukraine, has been deployed since December 2014, with a mandate to support Ukrainian state agencies in the reform of the civilian security sector.

EUAM aims to strengthen and support reform in state agencies such as the police, other law enforcement agencies and the judicial sector, particularly the prosecutor's office. The mission provides strategic advice to the Ukrainian authorities, supported by operational activity, including training, to develop sustainable, accountable and efficient security services that strengthen the rule of law.

EUAM is an unarmed, non-executive civilian mission with its headquarters in Kyiv.

The Council of the European Union approved on 20 November 2017 the extension of the EU Advisory Mission in Ukraine for a further 18 months, until 31 May 2019. It also approved a budget of €32 million.
