An Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans

Communication published by the European Commission on 6 October 2020, setting out an Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans.

The Plan aims to spur the long-term economic recovery of the region, support a green and digital transition, foster regional integration and convergence with the European Union (EU). It sets out a substantial investment package mobilising up to €9 billion of funding for the region. It is set to support sustainable connectivity, human capital, competitiveness and inclusive growth, and the twin green and digital transition.

A set of guidelines for implementing the Green Agenda in the Western Balkans was also presented. This was expected to be adopted at a forthcoming Western Balkans summit later in the year.

The Economic and Investment Plan was put forward alongside the publication of the annual Enlargement Package reports.
