The Labour Party in the United Kingdom was involved in the spring of 2018 in a dispute with the Jewish establishment within the country when the Board of Deputies of British Jews sent a critical letter to the Party. In the letter they claimed 'We have had enough of hearing that Jeremy Corbyn 'opposes antisemitism', whilst the mainstream majority of British Jews, and their concerns, are ignored by him and those he leads'. Jeremy Corbyn offered to meet with Jewish leaders urgently to resolve misunderstandings. Some supporters of the Labour Party leader claimed that the attacks against him were more of a general campaign to de-stabilise Mr Corbyn. Mr Corbyn met with representatives of the Board of Deputies of British Jews and the Jewish Leadership Council on the 25 April 2018. In a statement after the meeting the Jewish leaders said 'Our meeting with Jeremy Corbyn today was a disappointing missed opportunity regarding the problem of antisemitism in the Labour Party. We welcomed Mr. Corbyn’s personal involvement in the discussion and his new comments recognising and apologising for antisemitism in the Labour Party but he failed to agree to any of the concrete actions we asked for in our letter to him of 28th March'.
