Reports, analyses and information on the appointment of Czech Republic's Vera Jourova as Vice-President for Values and Transparency, in the European Commission led by Ursula von der Leyen.
Věra Jourová became one of the individuals to be transferred from the previous College of Commissioners, following her nomination by the national government in August 2019. Ms Jourová was formally announced on 9 September 2019 by the President of the European Commission. Her portfolio was known on the following day, set to take on the role as Commission's Vice President for Values and Transparency, thus being positioned at a higher rank than before.
The relevant committees of the European Parliament held a hearing with Ms Jourová on 7 October, in order to assess her capabilities to lead the portfolio. Media sources later reported that she had been approved as a suitable candidate.
