Anti-globalisation champion José Bove has claimed another victory in his fight against nasty multinationals.

The French farmer has defended a Languedoc hillside against California-based wine-giant Robert Mondavi, who wanted to buy the plot and turn it into a vineyard to produce €60-priced bottles of wine from a region known for its €4 offerings.

But Bove isn't against all New World wine barons. When he met World Trade Organisation boss Mike Moore, Bove presented the New Zealander with an entire Roquefort cheese to show that free trade threatens traditional foodmaking. In return, Moore gave him two bottles of the Kiwis' most prized wine, Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, worth around €100, which Bove gladly accepted.
