At a time when European Union member states face electoral challenges from right-wing, Eurosceptic, populist movements, the UK government is poised to trigger the formal process of withdrawing the country from the European Union.

Against this backdrop of unprecedented threats to the stability of the EU, Guy Verhofstadt – the European Parliament’s chief negotiator for Brexit and former prime minister of Belgium – sets out his vision for the future of the political order in Europe in a lwecture given at Chatham House on the 30 January 2017.
