Carney and Hammond join forces on Brexit risk

Reports and analysis of the speeches given by the United Kingdom Chancellor of the Exchequer (Finance Minister) Philip Hammond and the Governor of the Bank of England Mark Carney at the Mansion House in the heart of the City of London on the 20 June 2017.

Commentators saw the speeches as supporting the calls by some following the General Election of June 2017 for a 'soft Brexit'. Simon Lee in The Conversation wrote that the speeches 'offered a stark warning of the dangers of a cliff-edge, 'hard' Brexit.
