China holds firm on rare earth quotas

The European Union has accused China of restricting exports of rare earth metals essential for the production of mobile phones and other high-tech gadgets.

After months of lobbying from Brussels, Washington and Tokyo, China released new quota figures on the 14 July 2011 which would keep exports of the strategic materials on par with 2010 levels.
