This Recommendation proposes to media service providers issuing news and current affairs content a non-exhaustive catalogue of voluntary measures for potential uptake with a view to guaranteeing the independence of their individual editorial decisions. It also encourages media services providers and EU Member States to take actions to promote media ownership transparency in the internal market.

The text was adopted by the European Commission on 16 September 2022 alongside a draft European Media Freedom Act.
