Decision (EU) 2018/1505 on the mobilisation of the European Union Solidarity Fund to provide assistance to Bulgaria, Greece, Lithuania and Poland

Summary:

On 31 May 2018 the European Commission presented a proposal for a Decision regarding the mobilisation of the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) to provide assistance to Bulgaria, Greece, Lithuania and Poland. The proposal was accompanied by a Draft Amending Budget that proposed to enter the necessary appropriations in the general budget for 2018.

The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union adopted a Decision on 12 September 2018. The Amending Budget was also adopted.

The proposed Decision covered the mobilisation of the EUSF for a total amount of €33,992,206 to provide assistance to Bulgaria, Greece, Lithuania and Poland following disasters that took place in these countries in the course of 2017:

- Bulgaria submitted an application on 11 January 2018 following flooding caused by intense rainfall and violent storms in October 2017.
- Greece submitted an application on 11 October 2017 following an earthquake that affected the South Aegean region and the island of Kos in July 2017.
- Lithuania submitted an application on 22 December 2017 following flooding caused by continuous rainfall during summer and autumn 2017.
- Poland submitted an application on 25 October 2017 following exceptionally violent storms and heavy rainfall in August 2017.
