Summary:Decision (EU) 2024/2854 - adopted by the co-legislators on 23 October 2024 - mobilising the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) in response to application EGF/2024/001 BE/Match-Smatch. Further information:The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) aims to provide support for workers made redundant and self-employed persons whose activity has ceased as a result of major structural changes in world trade patterns due to globalisation, as a result of a continuation of the global financial and economic crisis, or as a result of a new global financial and economic crisis, and to assist them with their reintegration into the labour market. Belgium submitted an application for a financial contribution from the EGF in June 2023, seeking to address displacements in Match-Smatch supermarkets (Match SA. and Profi SA.) in Belgium. Following an assessment of this application, the European Commission concluded that the conditions for awarding a financial contribution from the EGF had been met. On 16 September 2024, the Commission adopted a draft Decision to allocate a financial contribution of around €2.7 million in respect of the application submitted by the Belgian authorities. The Council of the European Union endorsed it on 2 October, followed by the plenary of the European Parliament on 22 October. The Decision was formally signed by the co-legislators on 23 October 2024 and published in the Official Journal on 7 November 2024. |
