The Netherlands became the first triple A-rated northern European country to see its economy contract due to the effects of the eurozone debt crisis, after its GDP unexpectedly shrank by 0.3% in the third quarter of 2011.

Recovery for the Netherlands’ trade-heavy economy was seen to depend on handling of the eurozone sovereign debt crisis.
