Book abstract: This detailed reference book provides a comparative survey and analysis of energy law, both EU and international, in eight European countries. The book is a result of collaboration between nine European institutions where energy law is taught within the curriculum. The book is divided into two main parts. The first examines international and European regulation of the energy sector followed by a second part focusing on individual countries. The first part has four chapters focusing on regulation in the main energy sectors; the activities of international organisations such as the UN, OECD and EU in the energy sector; the origins and latest developments of the Energy Charter Treaty; and the Treaty rules and secondary legislation of EC energy law. The second part has chapters focusing on energy law in Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain and the United Kingdom. Each of these chapters provides an overview of the regulatory frameworks before focusing on specific sectors such as electricity, natural gas, oil, renewable energy and environmental issues with detailed analysis of national regulations affecting individual sectors. The book is aimed at academics specialising in the energy sector and energy law students. The editors are academics from various European universities. |
