The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini, announced on 8 June 2016 the European Union was ending its election observation mission in Haiti, calling the decision to cancel the last election results unjustified.

Haiti had decided to annul the result of the first-round presidential election held in Autumn 2015, on the recommendation of an independent commission that found fraud had tainted the vote.
