Summary:

Elections for the European Parliament were scheduled to be held on 23-26 May 2019. Voters from across the European Union are called to elect 705 (or 751) Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).

This ESO feature is subject to continuous development.

Further information:

This election is affected by amendments to the Electoral Act, which include new provisions on 'double voting', voting in third countries, different voting methods, and the visibility of European political parties in the Member States. While a Decision on the composition of the European Parliament determined the election of a lower number of MEPs, this was suspended due to the United Kingdom's participation in the European Parliament election as a result of the extension granted to the Article 50 process.

For more specific information, reports and analyses:

For country-based information [progressively expanded]:

Following the elections held across the European Union, the European People's Party (EPP) and the Socialists & Democrats (S&D) groups in the European Parliament suffered the heaviest losses, against the gains performed by the Liberals and the Greens. The far-right political groups also registered gains in some countries, although far from the expected breakthrough.
