Reports of a Pew Research Center report 'Euroskepticism Beyond Brexit. Significant opposition in key European countries to an ever closer EU', published on the 7 June 2016. The report found Euroscepticism on the rise across many of the Member States of the European Union. However, most Europeans agreed that a United Kingdom exit from the EU would harm the 28-member union. The survey was conducted in 10 EU nations among 10,491 respondents from 4 April to 12 May 2016. The survey included countries that account for 80% of the EU-28 population and 82% of the EU’s GDP. Much of the disaffection with the EU among Europeans could be attributed to the EU's handling of the refugee issue. The EU’s handling of economic issues was another huge source of disaffection with the EU. The Pew Research Center survey found that in six of 10 countries more people wanted devolution of EU power rather than support the status quo or favoured giving more power to the EU Institution. |
