Fourth progress report on the reduction of non-performing loans (NPLs) and further risk reduction in the Banking Union

Summary:

Communication published by the European Commission in June 2019 taking stock of the latest developments as regards risk reduction in the banking sector and progress towards a more integrated and stable financial system in the European Union (EU).

Further information:

The fourth progress report shows that the ratio of non-performing loans (NPL) in banks across the European Union marked a further decline towards pre-crisis levels. However, the Communication also calls on Member States the European Parliament to accelerate work on the outstanding proposals to complement the action undertaken to tackle this issue.

This Report would be used to inform the Council of the European Union in the discussions relating to the completion of the Banking Union.
