During a debate in the French Senate in January 2014, all political parties harshly criticised the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) being negotiated between the EU and the US, while the French government defended the potential deal.

Separately, the article in Spiegel Online International (see related url hyperlink) suggested an unusually broad alliance of anti-globalization groups, NGOs, environmental and consumer protection groups, civil rights groups and organised labor was joining forces in both the US and Europe to campaign against TTIP.
