Summary:

Bosnia and Herzegovina held a general election on 7 October 2018 to appoint the members of the House of Representatives and elect the office of the national Presidency. Also elected were the governmental bodies for the two autonomous regions of the Serb Republic and the Bosniak-Croat federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The turnout of the election was 53% of the population. The Presidency will be shared by Milorad Dodik from the Serbian Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, Šefik Džaferović from the Bosnian Muslim Party of Democratic Action (SDA) and Željko Komšić from the Democratic Front.

The complex political system in Bosnia and Herzegovina stems from the Dayton Peace agreement that concluded the Bosnian war in 1995. This agreement established shared power system between the three ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The shared Presidency that was established rotates every 8 months.
