Summary:

Since 1973, the European Commission has been measuring public opinion to inform itself about the views of European Union citizens and to share the obtained information with the general public.

The purpose of this brochure is to present readers with a selection of findings from these surveys. It provides readers with a picture of how Europeans see themselves by looking at a variety of subjects, including: citizens’ values and life satisfaction at the end of the 20th century; European citizenship; public opinion towards the European Union; public support for the policies of the European Union; public opinion towards a number of issues that EU citizens worry about; and people's expectations of the 21st century.
