Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/67 imposing safeguard measures with regard to imports of Indica rice originating in Cambodia and Myanmar/Burma

Regulation adopted by the European Commission on 16 January 2019 on the re-introduction of import duties on rice from Cambodia and Myanmar.

Further information:

The initial request for trade safeguards on rice imports was table by the Italian government in February 2018 and supported by all other rice growing Member States of the European Union. The European Commission opened a formal investigation on 16 March. This investigation found that a surge in rice imports from Cambodia and Myanmar on a substantially lower price had caused difficulties for EU rice producers, which saw their market share sharply decrease.

As a result of the investigation, the Commission decided to re-impose import duties, which were meant to be steadily reduced over a period of three years.
