Previews and reports of the first formal meeting between the new President of France Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin held at the palace of Versailles outside Paris on the 29 May 2017 - the 300th anniversary of a visit by Tsar Peter the Great’s to France.

Issues discussed included threats from terrorism and the situations in Syria and Ukraine. Discussions were said to be 'frank' and 'open'. The French President also criticised the Russian news channels Russia Today and Sputnik calling them 'agents of influence and propaganda'.
