At an extraordinary meeting on 11 February the Eurogroup of the Finance Ministers of the Eurozone countries discussed the situation in Greece.

The ministers exchanged views on the way forward following the appointment of the new Greek government in January 2015 and considering that the EFSF (European Financial Stability Facility) financial assistance to Greece would expire at the end of February 2015.

The newly appointed Greek Minister for Finance, Yanis Varoufakis, outlined his government's position. The ministers had a discussion, which would continue at the next Eurogroup meeting on 16 February 2015.

On 12 February 2015, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras signalled what could be seen as a starting step towards an approximation between both sides of the negotiations. This followed informal discussions held during the European Council [more information on this meeting by clicking here].
