Merkel pleads for calm amid coalition disputes

Article reports that Angela Merkel, Germany’s Chancellor, issued an urgent appeal for calm in her troubled coalition in an interview with the news­paper Bild on the 13 June 2010 after her government’s problems deepened amid splits over spending cuts.

Deutsche Welle reported that a majority of Germans thought that the ruling centre-right coalition would not last.
