Moldova may adopt a new constitution in order to avoid holding an election after the parliament failed twice to elect the country’s president in 2009.

The ruling group, the Alliance for European Integration (AEI), agreed on the 10 March 2010 to change the fundamental act governing the country and hold a referendum on the changes by 16 June 2010 at the latest, when the parliament will be dissolved.
