Monthly Bulletin (European Central Bank):

The European Central Bank has launched a new Monthly Bulletin from January 1999. The objective is for the ECB to explain to the public the monetary policy decisions taken by the Governing Council of the ECB. An 'editorial' will summarise the basis on which monetary policy decisions are taken, explaining these from the point of view of the stability-oriented monetary policy strategy of the Eurosystem, whether or not the Governing Council of the ECB decides to change the ECB interest rates. These aspects will be further expounded in a section on 'Economic developments in the euro area'. In the March, June, September and December issues this section will be more extensive and will also cover developments in fiscal policies. The third standard component of the Monthly Bulletin is a section on 'Euro area statistics', which will contain a comprehensive set of tables and charts supplying important economic information on the euro area. Furthermore, the Monthly Bulletin will include a chronology of monetary policy measures, as well as material informing readers about new ECB publications. Finally, the Monthly Bulletin will also publish articles on various matters related to the design and conduct of monetary policy and on other matters relevant to the ECB.
