Politico published a report on 11 September 2015 regarding the debate on the Eurozone's governance and related deeper integration process.

European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker stated during his State of the Union speech that the European Parliament should have a stronger say in relevant matters for the euro area. Such statement was seen as a move against what some other relevant stakeholders had defended in the past, which pointed to the creation of Eurozone's own parliament.

These matters have been discussed both at the European Parliament and between leaders from EU member states. Such discussions also included the potential need for treaty change. On 14 September 2015, the economic and monetary affairs committee held a debate with members of the European Commission on the follow-up of the Five Presidents' Report, during which further integration and the EP's role were also discussed.
