Summary:

Personal data belonging to a number of politicians and other public figures (including journalists and celebrities) in Germany were published online via Twitter in December 2018.

Further information:

Reports indicated that the leak affected politicians from all political parties except the far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD). Personal data belonging to Chancellor Angela Merkel was also published. Sensitive information includes home addresses, the scans of national ID cards and bank account information. Different stakleholders showed concern over the size of the leak and the time it took to uncover it - not until January 2019 - following previous episodes which also featured the publishing by hackers of sensitive data.

Media reports suggested that while much of the information appeared to be authentic, some of it was understood to be fabricated or was disputed.
