Legislative proposal published by the European Commission on 30 May 2018 setting up the Rights and Values programme, one of the branches of a Justice, Rights and Values Fund.
This new 'Rights and Values' funding programme aims to provide support to open, democratic, pluralist and inclusive societies. It also intends to empower people by protecting and promoting rights and values and by further developing an EU area of justice. The proposed allocated budged for this specific programme is €642 million.
The Rights and Values programme aims to provide support in the area of citizenship, which is covered thus far by two different programmes. The proposed one has three specific objectives:
This proposal was put forward in the framework of the discussions regarding the Multiannual Financial Framework for the period 2021-2027. The European Commission adopted the proposal on 30 May 2018 and the European Parliament's plenary session adopted its negotiating position on 17 January 2019.
