	Summary: Regulation (EU) 2017/1939 - adopted by the Council of the European Union in October 2017 - setting up the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO). Further information: The Regulation establishes an independent and decentralised prosecution office of the European Union with the competence to investigate, prosecute and bring to judgement crimes against the European Union's financial interests. It also establishes a system of shared competences between the EPPO and national authorities in tackling such cases. The EPPO is built on two levels - a Central Office at the seat of the EPPO in Luxembourg and a decentralised level consisting of European Delegated Prosecutors located in the participating EU countries. The Regulation implements the 'enhanced cooperation' set up between a group of EU Member States, launched on 3 April 2017. This was decided following the conclusion on 7 February that no unanimous agreement in the Council of the European Union would be within reach over the original proposal on setting up the EPPO, first adopted by the European Commission in July 2013. On 8 June 2017, the Member States involved reached an agreement on the draft regulation. The European Parliament eventually endorsed the initiative on 5 October 2017, followed by the final adoption of the Council of the European Union on 12 October 2017.
