Radio Poland reported that the Polish Senate on the 30 January 2016 passed a bill which would see the duties of the justice minister being combined with that of the state prosecutor.

The plan, which was part of a wider reform of the country’s prosecution service backed by Poland’s new Law and Justice (PiS) government, came under fire from the opposition, who said it would erode the independence of prosecutors and subject them to political pressure.
