Social Summit for Fair Jobs and Growth, 17 November 2017

Summary:

The Social Summit for Fair Jobs and Growth was held in Gothenburg on 17 November 2017. The agenda focused on discussions around labour markets in the European Union, social protection systems and social dialogue.

The summit was jointly hosted by the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and Sweden's Prime Minister Stefan Löfven. It was attended by the EU's heads of state or government, the social partners and other key players.

During the meeting the main EU institutions jointly proclaimed the European Pillar of Social Rights, underlining the commitment to stand by and promote the 20 principles and rights enshrined under the Pillar. The agenda also included a discussion on the future of education and culture.

The discussions were structured around three parallel working sessions, addressing the following themes: 'Access to the labour market', 'Fair employment and working conditions' and 'In between jobs: supporting transitions'.

In the margins of this Summit there was also an Informal Meeting of heads of state or government in the framework of the European Council.
