Summary:

The European Parliament launched the LUX Film Prize in 2007 as a result of the understanding that cinema - as a mass cultural medium - is an ideal platform for debate and reflection on Europe and its future. The films selected for this competition raise awareness about some of the main social and political issues.

Further information:

From an initial list of 10 films, three productions are shortlisted and subtitled into the official languages of the European Union. These are also screened in all EU countries during the LUX Film Days. The initiative is aimed at supporting the European film industry and helping the most significant European (co-)productions to circulate beyond their national market.
