Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community, of the One Part, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, of the Other Part.

The EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement sets out preferential arrangements in areas such as trade in goods and in services, digital trade, intellectual property, public procurement, aviation and road transport, energy, fisheries, social security coordination, law enforcement and judicial cooperation in criminal matters, thematic cooperation and participation in Union programmes. It is underpinned by provisions ensuring a level playing field and respect for fundamental rights. It is provisionally applicable since 1 January 2021, after having been agreed by EU and UK negotiators on 24 December 2020.

The EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement consists of:

  • a Free Trade Agreement;
  • a close partnership on citizens’ security;
  • an overarching governance framework.

This Agreement is the result of negotiations carried out between the two sides following the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union in February 2020. It was signed on 30 December 2020.
