Summary:

Refugee populations are rarely a perfect representation of the makeup of the country they have fled from. This is because refugees are often ‘self-selected’ in the sense that certain types of people are more likely to choose to leave or to have the opportunities to do so. Drawing on new survey evidence, the authors provide a detailed overview of the key characteristics of Ukrainian refugees in Austria and Poland.
