The Council of the European Union adopted on 26 February 2018 a set of conclusions on the situation in the Maldives.

Further information:

The Council urges the Maldivian institutions to lift the state of emergency and restore all constitutionally guaranteed rights. It condemns the politically motivated arrests and calls for the immediate release of all political prisoners. The Council also urges the country's government to engage with the leaders of the opposition in a genuine dialogue. It highlights it could consider targeted measures should the situation not improve.
