Adoption of the Council’s negotiating position as regards the visa suspension mechanism proposal

The Council of the European Union reached an agreement on 20 May 2016 regarding its negotiating position on the proposed regulation to revise the suspension mechanism which can be applied to existing visa liberalisation agreements.

The proposal was published by the European Commission earlier in the month. The Council hoped to start negotiations with the European Parliament as soon as it adopted its own position.
