The European Commission adopted on 6 February 2017 its first set of reports in the framework of the Environmental Implementation Review (EIR). These texts were aimed to address with member states the causes of implementation gaps and find solutions before problems became urgent.

The package includes 28 country reports which map national strengths, opportunities and weaknesses, a Communication summarising the political conslusions and examining common trends and recommendations for improvements to all member states.

The Environment Implementation Review was launched in May 2016 by the Commission as a tool for improving the implementation of EU environmental law in member states.
