The Albanian Parliament adopted on 21 July 2016 a judicial reform package, seen as a pre-condition for accession negotiations with the European Union.

The reform package aimed to fight organised crime and corruption. The EU welcomed its adoption and argued this would offer citizens an 'accountable, independent and transparent' judiciary system.
