Antonio Tajani elected new President of the European Parliament

Following a lengthy electoral procedure, Antonio Tajani (EPP) won the the European Parliament's presidential election on 17 January 2017, securing 351 votes in a final face-off with Gianni Pittella (S&D), who received 282 votes.

No candidate won the required absolute majority of valid votes cast in the first three rounds of voting.
