Around 2,000 African migrants attempt to jump Melilla border fence

Nearly 500 African migrants managed to jump the border fence separating Moroccan territory from Spain’s north African exclave of Melilla on the 28 May 2014.

Attempts on the border fences at Melilla and Spain’s other exclave in the north of Africa, Ceuta, had increased significantly since the beginning of 2014.

Six alleged jihadists were arrested on the 30 May 2014 in Melilla on suspicion of sending young recruits to Al Qaeda training camps in Syria, Mali and Libya.
