The UK Prime Minister, Theresa May, sent notification to the European Council of the UK Government’s intention to trigger Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union on the 29 March 2017. The notification signals the beginning of the two-year period within which a withdrawal agreement has to be negotiated between the UK and the European Union. This Blog looks at the development from the perspective of the Government in Wales and the National Assembly for Wales. Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood had presented her demands for Wales the previous day. First Minister Carwyn Jones said on the 29 March 2017 'While we have often been frustrated with the processes by which we’ve arrived at this point today, we must now concentrate on the job in hand. We stand ready to work constructively with the UK Government to secure a deal which protects Welsh businesses, our economy and the future prosperity of Wales'.
