Just after Serbia's EU accession talks began on 21 January 2014, Europe's Socialists and Democrats nominated EU's Vice-President Catherine Ashton, Serbian Prime Minister Ivaca Dačić and Prime Minister of Kosovo Hashim Thaçi for the Nobel Peace Prize. In a letter to the chair of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, Thorbjørn Jagland, the group wrote: "The efforts to normalise relations between the two countries have been unprecedented and have created the opportunity of lasting peace and cooperation in the region." |
