The 11th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) took place on 15-16 July 2016. Discussions at the summit focused on the theme '20 years of ASEM: partnership for the future through connectivity'. Several topics were discussed: + Review of the progress made by the ASEM and discussion on the course for cooperation in the following decade, as the initiative celebrates its 20th anniversary; + Decision to reinforce the pillars of the partnership - peace and stability, economic prosperity, sustainable development and a better quality of life; + Discussion on the state of play in the world economy, including a focus on strengthening policies to achieve inclusive economic growth and on inter-regional trade and investiment flows, and also on digital and transport connectivity; + Exchange of views on the ways to address current and future challenges to international stability, sustainable development, terrorism, climate change and terrorism. At the opening ceremony of the ASEM summit, EU and Asia leaders expressed solidarity at the attack in Nice. Later on, a statement was also released concerning the failed coup in Turkey. |
