Athens backs down over property tax / Greece aims to halve budget gap in 2012

The new Greek government under Lucas Papademos agreed a draft budget for Greece on rhe 18 November 2011, which aimed to halve its budget deficit in 2012.

On the 21 November 2011 Greek power workers wrung a concession from the finance ministry over a controversial property tax by preventing the state-controlled Public Power Corporation from cutting electricity to householders who have delayed paying the new levy.

Separately, on the 21 November 2011 Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos visited the EU Institutions in Brussels.
