Austria's government approved on 13 November 2015 a control system on the country's border with Slovenia which includes a fence.

A short fence was expected to be built, intended to help regulate the flow of refugees and register them more efficiently.

The decision followed increasing pressure over the government's ability to cope with the flux of migrants and refugees.
