EurActiv and other news sources reported that in the debate following his 2013 State of the Union address on the 11 September 2013 European Commission President José Manuel Barroso gave an undiplomatic warning to United Kingdom Conservatives that they risked losing out to the eurosceptic UKIP party in the 2013 European Parliament elections, saying British voters would rather vote for the original than the copy.
