Brussels mulls cross-border rules to wind up failing banks

Features preview a proposed cross-border banking regulation to be introduced by the European Commission on the 6 June 2012. This would renew the Commission's push for a 'banking union', which would create a common eurozone banking supervisor complete with a common fund to bail out failing banks and guarantee deposits throughout the currency region.

Other features discuss aspects of the proposed 'Banking union' and reaction in various countries including Germany. An FT article reported 'robust opposition from banks in Germany over fears that they would be put on the hook to support rivals in weaker countries'.
