Report of the launch of the Spinelli Group, Brussels, 15 September 2010. It will campaign for a federal and post-national Europe and amongst its founding members are Guy Verhofstadt, Daniel Cohn Bendit, Jacques Delors, Mario Monti and Joschka Fischer.

The problem is that we don’t have enough Europe, Mr Cohn Bendit told the FT, saying there was a need to 'restart a debate about what Europe’s about.'

The group will make the case for closer European integration and stand up against encroaching nationalism and intergovernmentalism, which they believe is beginning to undermine European unity.

The new organisation will be civil society based, bringing together think tanks, academics, writers and politicians who support the aims and principles laid out in the founding manifesto.

The first major conference 'The United States of Europe – Towards a Transnational Society?', of the Spinelli Group took place at the European Parliament, Brussels, 12 January 2011.
