Politico and other news sources reported in late December 2015 that German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President François Hollande had suggested a compromise offer of three years to UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s initial demand of a four-year ban on social benefits for EU migrants, as part of the renegotiation of the UK's relationship with the EU.
